Dear Colleagues and Friends,

we mourn the loss of Kristin Feireiss, who passed away unexpectedly on Easter Sunday after a short illness. Our great sadness is accompanied by an ongoing concern for the Aedes Gallery and the Metropolitan Laboratory, which she, together with Hans Jürgen Commerell and their team, built up and sustained over 45 years with great commitment and admirable courage. However, now Aedes finds itself at a difficult crossroads and we are turning to you, our valued colleagues and friends, with a plea for support.

The Aedes Gallery and the ANCB MetroLab are currently being merged into a single non-profit organization named Aedes Network Campus gGmbH. This is part of a generational change that has been started some time ago. In fact, Kristin had decided to step down from her operative obligations well before her passing. Hans-Jürgen had already led their team of long-standing employees to gradually take on more management and curatorial responsibilities. Dunya Bouchi, Lukas Feireiss, Ramona Kleinfeldt, Christine Meierhofer, Miriam Mlecek, Julia Schlütsmeier-Hage and Mathias Schnell have already been generating excellent exhibitions and events for some time. However, the financial basis of the entire endeavor has become increasingly fragile due to the current crises in the global economy and is in need of substantial support.

This is why we have decided to take initiative: We are currently in the process of establishing a non-profit support association: Aedes Alumni & Friends (AAF e.V.). The necessary formalities are underway but will take some more time as various legal and fiscal requirements have to be met.

We cordially invite you to become part of our dedicated circle of Aedes Alumni and Friends. It would mean a great deal to us if you would support this initiative, which we are convinced is worthy of all our commitment.
